Salomon Kalou has picked out three players who’ve caught his eye at Chelsea this season, praising their attitude, leadership, and quality.

The Ivorian, who played a key role during the club’s golden era under Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, believes the current side is building the foundations to restore the club’s identity.

Kalou, who made over 250 appearances for Chelsea and won both the Premier League and Champions League, still keeps a close eye on the club.

While he recognises consistency has been an issue, he sees signs of progress under Liam Rosenior, particularly in a few individuals who embody the right mentality.

Salomon Kalou singles out Trevoh Chalobah, Estevao, and Joao Pedro

Speaking to Duelbits, Kalou said: “Trevoh Chalobah has really impressed me. The way he’s stepped up as a leader shows real maturity.

“Estevao has been exciting too, he plays with no fear. And Joao Pedro brings a calmness you don’t often see in young forwards.”

Chalobah, who has battled injuries and competition for places, has emerged as a key defensive presence. His leadership and composure, especially in high-pressure situations, haven’t gone unnoticed.

Estevao, meanwhile, has added flair and unpredictability to Chelsea’s attack. The young Brazilian’s directness, close control, and willingness to take risks have already made him a fan favourite.

Joao Pedro offers something different up front. His calmness in possession and ability to link play have stood out, with Kalou highlighting how the forward makes those around him better, a quality that often separates good players from great ones.

Salomon Kalou sees signs of a new Chelsea core forming

Kalou’s comments reflect a growing optimism around Chelsea’s project under Rosenior. He sees a blend of homegrown talent and smart signings forming the backbone of a team that could grow together over the coming years.

Crucially, he believes this group needs time to develop rather than being judged too quickly.

With Rosenior steering a cultural and tactical reset at Chelsea, players like Chalobah, Estevao, and Joao Pedro look set to be central to the club’s future.

Kalou’s faith in the trio speaks not just to their talent, but to his understanding of what it takes to succeed at Stamford Bridge.

For Chelsea fans, hearing praise from someone who knows what it means to wear the shirt is another sign that the club’s young core might finally be ready to step up.

If they keep progressing as Kalou expects, they could become the backbone of the next great Chelsea side.
