Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy is warning Thomas Tuchel off taking the Tottenham Hotspur job, speaking to talkSPORT (9 March, 11pm) that both Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho struggled at the Premier League club.
Between them, Mourinho and Conte have accumulated 36 trophies as a manager, taking home silverware at the helm of Chelsea, Juventus, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United and more.
Isn’t it so typically Tottenham, then, that two of the most decorated coaches of the modern era came and went without picking up a single piece of anything shiny during their time in North London?

Mourinho was sacked mere days before Spurs lost the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City in 2021. Conte’s Tottenham, meanwhile, crashed out of two different competitions in the space of seven days recently; exiting the Champions League vs AC Milan after suffering an FA Cup shock at the hands of Sheffield United.
Neither coach managed to truly stamp their authority on the club, and Cundy believes that underwhelming stints endured by both Mourinho and Conte should be a warning to another former Stamford Bridge boss.
“Mourinho was a brilliant manager. Conte was a brilliant manager,” Cundy points out. “They are manager killers Spurs!”
Could Thomas Tuchel replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur?
According to Sky Sports, Tuchel – the former PSG and Borussia Dortmund boss who guided Chelsea to Champions League glory some 18 months ago – is one of the early candidates to take over from Conte when the Italian’s contract expires at the end of this season.
Roberto de Zerbi, Luis Enrique and Fulham’s Marco Silva are also reportedly in contention. As is Oliver Glasner; offered a new contract at Eintracht Frankfurt complete with a sizeable pay rise.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank, meanwhile, has played down reports that he could take over from Conte.
“First, (Tottenham) have a manager,” Frank begins. “Which is a manager I have studied for years and I admire massively. I think he has achieved some fantastic results. So I hope he will do well, and I hope Spurs do well.
“Secondly, I am very, very happy here at Brentford.”
