A number of Arsenal fans are not celebrating Tottenham Hotspur being thrown out of the Conference League.

Bad news for Arsenal?

There were a select few Arsenal supporters who could not help but laugh at their local rival’s being booted out of the European competition when the news came through earlier today.

Tottenham were deemed to have forfeited their match with Rennes by UEFA, after calling it off following a covid outbreak.

The result therefore was marked down as a 3-0 loss, which meant that Spurs ended up finishing third in their group.

It leaves Tottenham out of Europe for another season, but also increases the amount of time that Antonio Conte can spend working with his players on the training ground.

With Arsenal now in direct competition with Spurs for a top four spot that could be a worrying prospect.

Anyone who watched Tottenham face off against Liverpool yesterday could see the improvements that they have already made under his stewardship, as they fought out a 2-2 draw.

And there are numerous Arsenal supporters who are wishing that Tottenham still had to face the demands of playing midweek games around the continent.

Arsenal in front… for now

As it stands Arsenal are currently six points above Tottenham in their Premier League standings.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been in strong form in recent weeks and that has propelled them into the Champions League qualification spots.

Tottenham do have three games in hand over the Gunners though, so that gap is set to be reduced in the coming weeks.

Spurs will still have a busy schedule, even without their Conference League commitments.

But the decision to throw them out of the competition could actually end up working out in their favour, if they can use the extra time on the training ground to their advantage.
