Antonio Conte loved that Tottenham Hotspur fans sold out their ticket allocation for the Europa Conference League game against Vitesse last night, as per his comments on the club’s official website.

Conte’s appointment saw a surge in ticket sales, as the North London side completely sold out the lower tier of their new stadium.

What’s the story?

The Conference League is yet to really capture the imagination in England and arguably sits lowest on Tottenham’s list of priorities this term.

However, Spurs fans were eager to see Conte’s new look side in action.

They created a great atmosphere in the stadium, and were treated to an excellent game of football.

Tottenham ultimately came out 3-2 winners in what was a really topsy turvy contest, containing three red cards.

And Conte was delighted to see Spurs fans packing the ground out in such numbers.

He said: “It’s a good thing that our fans don’t care the game you are playing. They are here in the stadium to support the team.

“I think this is fantastic. I think you can find this only in England.”

Excitement rising

Tottenham’s high level of ticket sales just highlights the excitement levels around Conte’s appointment.

If Nuno had still be in charge, empty seats would likely have been visible in pockets of the lower tier.

But Conte’s arrival has captured the imagination of Spurs supporters, who are expecting big improvements.

Already there seems to be more intensity about the Lilywhites’ work than was ever visible under Nuno.

And while there are clearly tactical issues to solve, Tottenham’s first display under their new boss was encouraging, especially in an attacking sense.
