It looks like Antonio Conte is set for his coronation at Tottenham Hotspur after all.

Spurs hired the 52-year-old as Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement in North London on Tuesday morning.

But there was confusion over who was going to oversee Tottenham’s Europa Conference League clash with Vitesse tonight.

However, Sky Sports have reported that the Italian has indeed secured a work permit in time.

As a result, Conte will take charge of his new side against the Dutch outfit tonight.

Here’s how some Tottenham fans have reacted on Twitter:

First impressions

It’s a cliche, but first impressions do count and this is as true in football as any industry.

And with Nuno losing against Vitesse last month, Conte would endear himself to the Lilywhites faithful in a big way if his troops smash the Eredivisie side tonight.

Somewhat embarrassingly, Tottenham aren’t even top of their group.

Conte inherits a Spurs team that are third in their Europa Conference League group, two points behind Vitesse and three behind Rennes at the summit.

It’s unbelievable that the Premier League side aren’t top of the pile and on the brink of qualifying for the next phase, even if Nuno had been fielding a weakened team.

Conte will surely do the same, rest some big-name players, but even still he’s going to demand 150 percent of anybody he picks and that should be the difference between him and Nuno.
