Granit Xhaka is close to signing a new four-year-long contract with Arsenal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Swiss international will commit his long-term future with the club. Xhaka looked set to join AS Roma this window. However, talks over a transfer broke down.
The midfielder’s current deal is due to expire. But now, Xhaka will remain an Arsenal player until 2025 with this new contract.
As per Fabrizio Romano, the 28-year-old will also receive a salary increase from his current £100,000-a-week deal.
It is a stunning turn of events for the Arsenal midfielder. This summer has seen Xhaka be relentlessly linked with a move to Italy. And this U-turn has caused some shock amongst supporters.
But to the majority of fans, offering Xhaka a new contract is a big step in the wrong direction from the club, who looked keen on selling the Swiss star this window.

Indeed, Arsenal have failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League ever since Xhaka’s arrival. Moreover, the midfielder has been a key reason as to why the Gunners lose certain games or drop points in others.
Here’s what some Arsenal fans had to say on Twitter about Xhaka signing a new contract…
