Tony Cascarino has written in The Times that Tottenham Hotspur should be bold like Arsenal and appoint Vincent Kompany as their new manager should Antonio Conte leave, just like the Gunners went for Mikel Arteta in 2019.
The former Chelsea player has outlined the reasons why Kompany, now the manager of Burnley in the Championship in England, would be a good fit at Tottenham.
The talkSPORT pundit has noted how Arsenal took a chance with Arteta, now 40, in December 2019.
The Gunners are now at the top of the Premier League table at the moment and could win the title this season.
Tottenham told to follow Arsenal’s lead and appoint Vincent Kompany as manager
Cascarino wrote: “Antonio Conte got a win with Tottenham on Saturday but his time with the club is almost certainly up. Many are discussing a romantic return for Mauricio Pochettino or choosing another big name from Europe such as Thomas Tuchel. I think it’s time they were much bolder and more original in their thinking — they need to think like Arsenal.
“When they appointed Mikel Arteta in December 2019, Arsenal made a bold decision but it was bold because Arteta was young and lacked experience.
“It wasn’t bold in terms of talent — he was a highly regarded young coach and tipped by many to succeed Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Well now there’s another young, inexperienced manager who is being tipped to be a future City manager — Vincent Kompany.

“Guardiola himself said in the past week that he believes Kompany could be a future City manager so why don’t Tottenham, a club in need of enthusiasm and fresh impetus and ideas appoint the next bright young manager around instead of going for the usual names?
“The job Kompany has done at Burnley is remarkable — 17 points clear of third place, playing a style of football fans at Turf Moor haven’t seen for years and, as many videos of his team talks on social media have highlighted, he clearly inspires and lifts his players.
“Yes, recent former pros such as Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have struggled at big clubs in the Premier League but Kompany could be the next Arteta if Spurs are willing to take a gamble and be patient.”
Could it happen?
In our view, it is unlikely that Tottenham Hotspur will appoint former Manchester City central defender Vincent Kompany as their next manager.
The 36-year-old former Belgium international is doing extremely well as the Burnley boss now.
The Clarets are pretty much set to win automatic promotion from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of the season.
However, we do not think that Tottenham will go for a young and relatively inexperienced manager such as Kompany, especially after Antonio Conte.
It would be left-field appointment and potentially too risky for Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
