Wolfsburg Managing Director Jorg Schmadtke has confirmed, via Kicker, that his Bundesliga outfit will consider selling Newcastle and West Ham target Wout Weghorst.
The Dutch striker has no shortage of interest in his services after a sublime 2020/21 season. He scored 25 goals in 41 games across all competitions, including 20 in the German top-flight. The 28-year-old also offered nine assists to help qualify for the Champions League.
Among the admirers lining up for Weghorst include Newcastle and West Ham, per The Athletic. Steve Bruce or David Moyes can also sign the free-scoring 10-cap centre-forward for a relatively modest £25m this summer.

Only Robert Lewandowski, Andre Silva and Erling Haaland score more often than Weghorst in the Bundesliga last term. His strikes ultimately proved pivotal, with the Volkswagen Arena side edging Eintracht Frankfurt to a top-four finish by a point.
Kicker enthuse that Weghorst has no shortage of suitors, but Wolfsburg are yet to receive any offers. He also dreams of playing in the Premier League. Yet Die Wolfe chief Schmadtke accepts the situation can change quickly, with his contract expiring in 2023.
“When an offer comes that satisfies all parties, things change,” Schmadtke said.
Wolfsburg offer Newcastle and West Ham hope of Weghorst transfer
Schmadtke has offered Newcastle and West Ham hope of signing Wolfsburg star Weghorst this summer. The Wolfe executive could have come out and slammed the exit door firmly shut, yet instead left it ajar for a side to swoop with a tempting offer.
Wolfsburg will know that this summer is realistically their best chance to sell at a high price. Interest is sure to be high given his form and that his contract expires in two years’ time, which will also see the Dutchman’s value start to decline if he is not offered a new contract.
Newcastle or West Ham would certainly sign a top-draw attacker if either were to win the race for Weghorst. The 6 ft 5 star is an unorthodox striker capable of scoring any type of goal and against any side. He also has a fierce work ethic and leads the line without a hitch.
