Marco Barzaghi has told Calciomercato.it an unnamed English team is in pole position to sign Gianluca Scamacca, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly keen on a transfer deal for the Sassuolo star.
It is anticipated that Scamacca will leave the Mapei Stadium this summer after a lively run in Serie A. He has struck 13 goals in 28 games this season, including hitting home four over his last five appearances. The first of that run also came in a 2-0 away win over Inter Milan.
The Nerazzurri were the latest Italian top-flight title-chasing side to fall victim to the two-cap Italy striker. He also struck at the San Siro to beat AC Milan 3-1 in November and in a 1-1 draw with Napoli three days later. Those three clubs are now separated by six points.

Inter and AC Milan are also now in the mix for Scamacca, but Barzaghi notes Sassuolo are pricing them out. The Emilia-Romagna outfit are demanding over €40m (£33.5m) for the forward, which neither San Siro side can afford to strengthen his path away from Serie A.
Tottenham would be keen to offer Scamacca a path from Sassuolo to England in the next transfer window. Gazzetta dello Sport cited Spurs alongside Inter, AC Milan and Juventus as a potential landing spot in December with the quartet tracking the 23-year-old’s form.
English side leads Inter, AC Milan for Tottenham target Scamacca of Sassuolo
Scamacca recently stated a move abroad will not ‘scare’ the Rome native, who will ‘follow my heart’ when deciding. But AC Milan want to keep him in Serie A, as Gazzetta dello Sport note they offered €30m (£25m) in a double-deal for Domenico Berardi at €15m (£12.5m).

Barzaghi, however, believes an unnamed English side leads the transfer tussle for Sassuolo star and Tottenham target Scamacca. The Sport Mediaset journalist also does not rule out another move abroad for the former PSV Eindhoven youth talent and PEC Zwolle loanee.
“They give me an English club on pole,” he said. “Milan went down with a cumulative offer with Berardi for about €45m (£38m). Sassuolo’s requests are too onerous, even for Inter.

“If there was the possibility of inserting some counterpart it would be more viable. I would not underestimate the declarations of him opening up to an experience abroad.”
