Owen Hargreaves says Arsenal transfer targets Mykhailo Mudryk and Joao Felix are ‘world-class options’ for Mikel Arteta ahead of the January transfer window opening.

But the former England midfielder thinks Arsenal won’t get those players next month for that reason, but he made it clear that they have to look to replace the injured Gabriel Jesus.

Without him, the Gunners secured a 3-1 win over West Ham United on Boxing Day, with the front three all scoring, including Eddie Nketiah.

But whilst Nketiah does his talking on the field of play, Arteta still needs to look for options in the transfer market, with Mudryk watching Arsenal’s win over West Ham yesterday and posting it all over social media.

The Shakhtar Donetsk star is better suited to playing on the left-channel, whilst someone like Joao Felix could play that central role if he were to move to the Emirates from Atletico Madrid.

Nonetheless, with Arsenal being in such a commanding position at the top of the Premier League table, for Hargreaves, this is the time they act, as he told Premier League Productions.

“If you are Arsenal now, they have massively overachieved being top,” said Hargreaves. “Mikel Arteta is the Manager of the Year, so far, up to this point.

“So, they are way ahead of the curve. But losing Jesus, I think now you have to go and bring somebody in. But he (Arteta) said he just doesn’t want to bring anyone in. He wants to bring in the right person. And that means someone who fits into the group.

“I think with Jesus out for three months. They need another body. Whether it’s Mudryk or Joao Felix, they are both world-class options. I don’t think you get those in January.”

FELIX BETTER SUITED TO ARSENAL

In terms of depth and boosting Arsenal’s bench, there is no doubt that Mudryk’s arrival would provide that in bucketloads.

But Arteta is looking to replace Jesus, especially if he is out for the long-term, therefore, someone like Felix is a better answer to that problem than Mudryk.

Would those in the north London boardroom be crazy enough to go for both? Probably not, but either way, one of them through the doors would make things better.
