‘There were discussions’: Record-breaking Spurs star says UCL giants wanted him in January

Tottenham midfielder and club record-breaking signing Tanguy Ndombele has admitted that there were talks between him and Ligue 1 side PSG.

In an interview with Telefoot via GFFN, the 25-year-old revealed that discussions took place between his representatives and the UEFA Champions League giants, however, a deal was unable to take place due to issues on PSG’s end.

Ndombele, who signed for Spurs in 2019 for a club-record €60m (£53.8m) from Olympique Lyonnais according to BBC Sport, returned to his boyhood club on loan in the final days of the transfer window.

The French club hold an option to sign Ndombele for good at the end of this season, with the midfielder impressing in his comeback debut for Lyon at the weekend against AS Monaco.

Yet according to the player himself, things could have gone much differently had talks with PSG played out more proactive, with Ndombele saying that a transfer to the European powerhouses was complicated.

The Tottenham midfielder said: “I was linked with Paris, there were discussions. A transfer is complicated. They quickly made me understand that. I listened and respected their decision. I couldn’t do anything differently. Maybe I was never destined to go there.”

Lyon move could be more productive for Ndombele than PSG

Indeed, it makes sense why Ndombele sounded somewhat down about not getting a move to PSG. However, his eventual move to Lyon could give the midfielder the platform he needs to make a comeback on a global level.

It’s easy to forget that this player was once one of the most talented and exciting in Europe with Tottenham winning the race in what was, at the time, a massive coup for the north London side. And for Ndombele, he has a chance to show his qualities yet again with Lyon this season.
