Glasgow Rangers were linked with an incredible move for former West Brom striker Saido Berahino.
When The Sun linked Rangers with a move for Saido Berahino during the January transfer window, it is fair to say that few Gers supporters were convinced that they stood any chance of landing the then-West Brom forward.

Berahino was once one of the most encouraging talents in the Premier League. And while his career had stagnated in the final 18 months of his spell with the Baggies, and the Scottish Premiership side were looking to land him when his deal expired in the summer, there was surely no way that Rangers would be able to compete with the likes of Stoke and Tottenham, who The Sun suggested had also been interested.

And when he ultimately joined Stoke for £12 million and signed a deal at the Bet365 Stadium worth £70,000 a week (via Daily Mail), Light Blues supporters would have surely looked at the numbers involved in the move and known that they were probably not serious players in the race for his signature.
But that may not stop the Ibrox faithful wondering what could have been.
Rangers manager Mark Warburton
As mentioned, the couple of years have been extremely frustrating for Berahino, and he had not scored for the Baggies since February 2016. Nevertheless, he would have arguably been the perfect addition to Mark Warburton’s squad had the audacious deal somehow taken place.
Rangers have scored considerably fewer goals than any of their rivals in the top four in the top flight, and their top goalscorer in the league has just six strikes to his name.

If Berahino is capable of getting his career back on track, he has previously shown that he has the talent that would allow him to make a similar, if not greater, impact to the one that Moussa Dembele has made at Celtic this term.
And landing a player of his potential would have sent a huge message to Rangers’ other targets about the direction the club was going in, especially given the stature of the other teams who have made moves for him previously.
