Paul Merson has told Everton to ‘put a lot more money on top’ if Arsenal come knocking for Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s services during the summer transfer window, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (02/04/22 at 1:40 pm).

The Sky pundit pointed out Arsenal’s potential situation in the summer transfer window where they could have ‘no centre-forward’.

The Gunners have two bonafide number nine’s on their books in the first team right now – Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah – both are out-of-contract in June.

As a result of that all, rumours are flying around that Arsenal are keen on bringing the Everton hitman, Calvert-Lewin, to the Emirates.

If that happens, then Merson thinks there is only one way the Toffees should react.

“The thing is, they are going to be in a situation,” said Merson. “If they let Lacazette go, then there is no centre-forward.

“If I am Everton and they want Calvert-Lewin, then I am putting a lot more money on top.”

In truth, Everton and Arsenal’s potential situations might just help the north London club in the summer.

Mikel Arteta might have guided the club to the Champions League, whilst Everton might just be a Championship club when the transfer window re-opens.

If that’s the case, then they can wave goodbye to a number of their star assets, including Calvert-Lewin.

Even if they survive, there is a big question mark over their financial situation.

Even if the Merseyside club is in a position where they want to keep their best players, they might be forced to sell them if serious dough lands on their table.
