Julian Nagelsmann admits the Bayern Munich squad are ‘annoyed’ by Niklas Sule’s desire to leave as Premier League outfit Newcastle United eye up a deal for the Bundesliga winner, speaking via Tuttomercatoweb

Just because Newcastle’s Saudi Arabian owners have more money than God himself, that does not mean they have no concept of ‘value’.

The nouveau-riche Magpies are expected to step up their pursuit of a new central defender in the summer transfer window, providing they are still a Premier League team by then of course.

But while the likes of Diego Carlos, Benoit Badiashile and Sven Botman would cost in excess of £40 million, the same cannot be said of a 37-time Germany international with four Bundesliga titles and a Champions League winners’ medal on his silver-coated CV.

According to BILD, Newcastle are eyeing up an ambitious swoop for 26-year-old man mountain Niklas Sule.

Sule will be a free-agent in the summer.

And his agent admitted on Sunday that the former Hoffenheim man, who moved to the Allianz Arena for £20 million in 2017, has already chosen his new club, though he stopped short of confirming his client’s destination, via Fabrizio Romano.

“I understand some of the reasons (why he has decided to leave) but I don’t know them all,” sighs a frustrated Nagelsmann.

Could Niklas Sule leave Bayern Munich for Newcastle United?

Bayern were ready to offer Sule a staggering new deal worth around £8.4 million-a-year (£160,000-a-week) (TZ).

But, as Nagelsmann points out, the long-serving centre-back could earn even more than that elsewhere.

After all, the lack of a transfer fee means Sule is in a position to demand eye-watering wages at his new club. Call it the ‘Aaron Ramsey scenario’.

“A contract expires and there are teams with more money than us. That’s it,” Nagelsmann adds.

“He’s an important player. For us, we have to find a replacement. It’s a challenge. (Goalkeeper Manuel) Neuer said the team is annoyed because he will leave. I think that’s a compliment to him.”

“The team is annoyed. We have to replace him.”

Sule’s agent admitted back in November that Sule was yet to hold talks regarding a move to Tyneside. That could soon change, however.
