PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp made a succession of extremely exciting announcements on Tuesday.
Big changes are incoming to the PGA Tour, and Rolapp has struck the perfect chord with golf fans who were demanding a better and more well-rounded product.
And now Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber must learn from one of Rolapp’s key initiatives.
What do you make of the planned changes to the PGA Tour?
What do you like? What concerns you about the changes?
Brian Rolapp took over as the PGA Tour‘s new CEO in 2025 and he hasn’t wasted any time in trying to improve the product on offer.
The former NFL chief is exactly what the PGA Tour needed and all the changes he has put in place for 2028 seem to be hugely positive.
Rolapp spoke with a real sense of authority during his press conference on Tuesday.
The majority of golf fans were hugely impressed with what he had to say. Hopefully Don Garber was watching too.
The PGA Tour show MLS the change they must make to American soccer
Brian Rolapp’s announcement on Tuesday was greeted with real excitement from golf fans.
Rolapp announced that there will be two tiers on the PGA Tour from 2028 onwards – the Championship Series Events with $20 million purses and the Challenger Series Events with $4 million purses.
Players from the Championship Series face the danger of being relegated down to the Challenger Series, while those players in the second tier can earn promotion to the top tier.
Now the MLS must follow suit and make one key change to the way that they operate.
MLS has some genuine talent among their ranks.
The obvious names like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are superstars of the game.
However, there are some talented younger players as well, including the likes of Kévin Denkey, Diego Luna and Julian Hall.

There is no doubt that the standard of American soccer continues to improve with every year that passes.
One of its key selling points is the tremendous athleticism and power on display in almost every single match.
However, there is one thing missing. One key word which is entirely absent from American soccer – jeopardy.
MLS must implement promotion and relegation
There is no promotion or relegation like there is in all of the other top soccer leagues around the world.
This is what creates real excitement. Take England, for example. There are 92 teams which make up the English football league pyramid.
Then there are hundreds of other teams below that which have the chance to force their way into the professional ranks.
Having the opportunity to gain promotion to a higher league while also playing with the jeopardy of being relegated is what makes soccer so special worldwide.
And this is exactly what the MLS is missing. They have huge potential to become a real giant on the worldwide soccer scene.
The only thing that is really missing is the addition of promotion and relegation.
The PGA Tour have shown the MLS exactly what they need to do in order to make their product more appealing to both fans and sponsors.
