Rory McIlroy caused real controversy last week when he commented about the PGA Tour’s proposed ‘track two’ events.

McIlroy suggested that the Track Two series events for the PGA Tour Challenger Series will be like ‘glorified Korn Ferry Tour events’.

However, Brian Rolapp has spoken strongly against that notion.

Brian Rolapp addressed the media at TPC River Highlands on Tuesday, after outlining his plan for big changes coming to the PGA Tour in 2028.

Rory McIlroy is the PGA Tour’s poster boy, so whatever he says about the proposed changes always carries real weight.

McIlroy is always extremely outspoken and is one of the more transparent players on the PGA Tour when he comments on a wide range of topics.

As mentioned previously, McIlroy never beats around the bush when discussing topics that have real meaning to him.

During his press conference ahead of the US Open last Tuesday, McIlroy responded when asked what he thought about the proposed plans for Track One and Track Two events from 2028 onwards.

I guess, just recency, an event like last week, the Canadian Open, potentially going to one of these Track Twos, McIlroy said.

Track two is a glorified Korn Ferry event. That’s what Track Two is going to be.

So, I don’t think the Canadian Open should be one of those.

McIlroy’s remarks may well have ruffled some feathers at PGA Tour headquarters.

Rolapp spoke during a press conference on Tuesday and fielded questions about McIlroy’s controversial remarks.

Rolapp responded when asked what he made of McIlroy’s ‘glorified Korn Ferry Tour events’ claim.

Yeah, I had a chance to speak with Rory today. We talked a bit about it, and I think he’s made some comments publicly since then, Rolapp said.

But I think the best way to think about what we’re doing here is that right now we have 47 events at the PGA TOUR. We’ll have 47 events going forward. That current model serves roughly 230 players. We’ll serve that amount of players, the same.

We are just organized now in a more simple understanding competitively so our fans can understand it, our partners know what they’re getting as far as value. So we think we’ve just organized the same tour into a much more interesting and competitive system.

If you look at the Challenger Series events, they’ll be at venues you recognize. They’ll be for healthy purses, which we announced today. They’ll include a subset of the same 200 and change players that we have today. That is much different than what the Korn Ferry TOUR is today.
