The summer transfer window is over, and one club that has to be so happy with their current situation is Tottenham Hotspur.
Not only are Spurs top of the Premier League, they’ve also managed to keep hold of Harry Kane and add some serious talent to their squad.
Fabio Paratici has joined as the new Sporting Director, and it’s fair to say he’s had a busy window, and with that in mind, we’re going to have a go at rating Tottenham’s summer signings.
Pierluigi Gollini – 5/10
Gollini only gets a 5/10 from us because it’s a very run of the mill signing.
Spurs needed a new goalkeeper this summer after the departures of Joe Hart and Paulo Gazzaniga, and they got their man in Gollini.
The Italian isn’t expected to pull up any trees at Spurs, and it’s probable that we won’t really see that much of him this season.
This isn’t a bad signing, but it’s not one to blow your socks off either.
Emerson Royal – 7/10
You know you’ve had a good transfer window when your fourth-best signing is scoring 7/10.
Tottenham went into deadline day needing a right-back, and they’ve got a very talented one here in the shape of Emerson.
The defender could be the addition that sees Nuno shift to his favoured 3-4-3 formation, and if he’s given that licence to attack, expect fireworks.
Pape Matar Sarr – 8/10
“I’m told by French journalists and also by people that are in and around Spurs that he is a proper talent, like one of the most gifted young players in France.”
That’s what Alasdair Gold said when Sarr was rumoured to be signing, and if that rings true then Tottenham will have one hell of a player on their hands.
We can’t score him any higher than 8/10 just because he’s not going to play a game for Spurs this season as he’s gone out on loan, but in a few years’ time this could be seen as one of Tottenham’s greatest signings.
Bryan Gil 8/10
Speaking of talented young players, Bryan Gil is a star in the making.
One of the most prodigious players in Spain, Gil looks like he’ll be a real talent in years to come, and if Nuno can bring him on in the same way he helped develop the likes of Pedro Neto and Diogo Jota, he will soon be a fan favourite in north London.
Of course, it will be hard for Gil to break into the XI this season due to the number of talented wingers Spurs have, but once Gil hits his peak he’ll be a real asset.
Cristian Romero 9/10
For our money, Fabio Paratici’s greatest signing yet at Tottenham is Cristian Romero.
The Argentine is a world-class defender – after all, he won the Serie A Defender of the Year award last term, and if he can bring that sort of form to north London, Spurs will be a formidable defensive force.
After the departures of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen in recent years Tottenham have needed a statement defensive signing, and that’s exactly what Paratici has delivered here.
