Speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, journalist Alasdair Gold has shared what he knows about Spurs’ pursuit of Pape Matar Sarr.
Tottenham have been linked with Sarr over the weekend, and Gold believes that the deal is at an advanced stage now and is likely to go through.
He also says that people within Spurs view this deal in a similar way to how they viewed the signing of Dele Alli in that they think he’s a top talent who they need to get through the door ASAP or else someone else will get him.
What’s been said?
The journalist gave an update on Sarr.
“I’m told by French journalists and also by people that are in and around Spurs that he is a proper talent, like one of the most gifted young players in France. Think the Dele Alli deal, that’s pretty much what Spurs see this as. They think they need to get him now or else someone else will get him and he’ll become one of the best around,” Gold said.
Gold then gave a further update later in the podcast.
“He’s a very versatile player, I was looking at his stats and he played a lot of minutes for a young player. It’s at an advanced stage now, so it looks like that’s going to happen, loaned back, I can’t see it as anything other than a good deal.”

Promising
This update should have Spurs fans very excited.
If Sarr becomes half as good as Alli, Tottenham will have one hell of a player on their hands.
Indeed, while Alli may have had a poor 12 months, he’s still a two-time PFA Young Player of the Year winner and an England international.
Sarr sounds like he could be the real deal, and while we may not see him in north London until next year, he’s certainly a player to be excited about.
