Speaking on the Ornstein and Chapman Podcast, David Ornstein has explained that the only way Tottenham would be able to sign Nicolas Gonzalez is by selling some players first.

The London outfit have been linked with a move for the Argentine attacker, and Ornstein says that they have held some early talks with him, but a deal won’t be able to happen unless some players are sold.

Ornstein would go on to speak about how some of Spurs’ wingers could be on the move this month.

“Well, it’s interesting that you mention the winger situation at Tottenham, because the only way Tottenham could bring in Nico Gonzalez or anybody else, is if they have some departures.

“Gareth Bale is kind of separate because he was a standalone signing in his own right, they didn’t really need that position filled it was an opportunity.

“But let’s see what happens with Lamela, Moura and Bergwijn, and if there’s any space freed up, perhaps Tottenham can bring someone in, and they’ve held some very early discussions with Gonzalez.”

The signing of Gonzalez seems to depend on some outgoings in north London, but we shouldn’t write that off as a possibility.

Fans aren’t too happy about it, but Tottenham are apparently ready to listen to offers for Lucas Moura, while Erik Lamela is also reportedly in the same situation.

Of course, football transfers are complicated things, so it’s not as simple as selling Moura or Lamela and signing Gonzalez, but things do seem to be headed in the right sort of direction on that front.

This may be a story that is worth keeping an eye on this month.
