Rangers stand on the brink of ending Celtic’s long reign in Scottish football

Stuart McCall has lamented the fact that Rangers fans will be unable to celebrate their impending title triumph with the players.
A first top tier trophy since 2011 surely beckons for Steven Gerrard’s men, who can potentially secure the title at Celtic Park on March 21.
With an 18-point gap over their rivals, wins for both teams in their next two games will see Rangers heading across the city knowing a draw would suffice.
Having won both of this season’s derbies and maintained an unbeaten record in their 30 Premiership matches so far this season, Gerrard and his team will be in confident mood.
McCall knows what’s required to get over the line, having won six titles in his time at Ibrox, and he has hailed Rangers’ achievement in changing the narrative this season.

Neil Lennon’s Celtic were widely expected to win a historic tenth successive title, but former Bradford and Everton midfielder McCall believes 10 is no longer the number on everyone’s lips.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “It’ll mean everything, because the supporters have stuck by the club through thick and thin over the last nine years.
“They’ve been down divisions, but they’ve backed them.

“And that’s the only sadness really, that you don’t have an Ibrox rocking at this moment in time with 50,000 fans, but I’m sure they’ll make the most of it once the day comes.
“All season the number being talked about has been 10. The only number that’s talked about in Glasgow is 55.”
McCall made 265 appearances after being brought to Ibrox by Walter Smith in 1991, scoring 19 goals.
He also served as caretaker manager for the final three months of the 2014/15 season.
