The weekend has arrived at The Open Championship, and several high-profile names have missed the cut.

Royal Birkdale has proven too difficult for many stars, as did Augusta National, Aronimink and Shinnecock Hills in this year’s previous majors.

But impressively, a very select group of players have now managed to make the cut at all four of those tournaments in 2026.

They can be very proud of their efforts, with 14 names forming the exclusive group of players to make the weekend at The Masters, the PGA Championship, the US Open and The Open Championship.

Who do you now think will win The Open Championship?

Have any big names played themselves out of it at Birkdale?

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler headline players to make all four major cuts in 2026

Somewhat unsurprisingly, the top two players in the world rankings – Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy – headline the list.

And they have been joined by 12 others who can hold their heads extremely high after continuously getting over the line on the big stage.

That includes Ludvig Aberg and Cameron Young, who are both in contention to win their first major at Royal Birkdale this week.

Joining them are former major champions Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Hideki Matsuyama.

And also making the cut at this year’s four major championships are Michael Brennan, Sam Burns, Corey Conners, Chris Gotterup, Ben Griffin and Kurt Kitayama.

Justin Rose and Matt Fitzpatrick among high-profile missed cuts at The Open

The inquests will now begin for many of the players who failed to make the cut at The Open, several of whom were very high-profile.

Very surprisingly, home favourites Justin Rose and Matt Fitzpatrick have both failed to make the weekend, much to the disappointment of fans.

But equally shockingly, Aaron Rai and Wyndham Clark have also missed the cut, despite winning the PGA Championship and US Open respectively earlier this year.

Tom Kim, who won last week’s Scottish Open, has also missed out, along with Jason Day, Viktor Hovland and Jordan Spieth.

Rose has since reacted to his exit on Instagram, writing: “Thank you [The Open], [Royal Birkdale], that was special…

“Gutted I won’t be around for the weekend, in front of those amazing crowds and the best Open course. Thanks for the support as always Team [Rose].”

Meanwhile, his fellow Englishman Fitzpatrick labelled Royal Birkdale “awkward” after his shock missed cut in Southport.
