Tony Cascarino has warned Everton against appointing Rafa Benitez as their next manager by claiming their ‘love’ with Liverpool has ‘long gone’, as he told talkSPORT.
The former Republic of Ireland striker suggested that the relationship with Everton and Liverpool supporters, in the 80s’, was a lot better than it is now.
Even though Benitez is a Liverpool legend, The Athletic reported that the 61-year-old would be interested in taking the hot seat at Goodison Park.
But Cascarino has dismissed the idea of Benitez swapping red for blue, after it was also suggested by Anfield great, Jamie Carragher that he should become Everton boss.
“I don’t agree with Rafa, by the way,” said Cascarino. “The love Everton and Liverpool fans had in the ’80s, that’s long gone.
“They haven’t been on the same sort of hymn sheet now as fans.”

If Benitez hadn’t managed Liverpool then replacing Carlo Ancelotti with the Spaniard wouldn’t have been a bad choice.
There’s no doubt that he is a safe pair of hands, he can help a club progress and he has a history of putting trophies in the cabinet.
But you just don’t cross that divide, even though many, both as players and coaches, have worn the colours of both Everton and Liverpool before.
