Writing in his column in The Telegraph, Jamie Carragher has urged Everton to consider hiring Rafa Benitez after the departure of Carlo Ancelotti.

Everton have been linked with a plethora of new gaffers since Ancelotti swapped Merseyside for Madrid, and Carragher believes Benitez is the man for the job.

What’s Carragher’s opinion?

Carragher believes that there’s no reason why Benitez shouldn’t be in consideration for the Everton job.

“Rafa is available, settled in the area and I am sure he is ready if Moshiri is prepared to consider one of the more shocking managerial appointments in Merseyside football history,” Carragher wrote.

“At the very least, Benitez should be under consideration as Moshiri begins yet another managerial quest. And not for the first time, before the owner decides the right candidate, he has to be clear of the football direction he wants to take.”

Not many better

As strange as it would be to see Benitez take over at Everton, we have to admit that there aren’t many better managers on the market.

The Spaniard is a Champions League winner, a La Liga winner and incredibly experienced when it comes to managing in the Premier League.

Given that Benitez has previously managed Chelsea and Newcastle, it’s hard to imagine that he’ll have reservations about taking the Everton job, despite his links to Liverpool.

Whether or not the Toffees go for Benitez remains to be seen, but we have to agree with Carragher in that he’s one of the better option out there.
