West Bromwich Albion were linked with a move for former Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

West Brom have enjoyed a very good first half of the season, and their supporters would have surely earmarked the January transfer window as a chance to give themselves the tools needed to keep battling in the top half of the Premier League table.

And while Tony Pulis may be happy with the permanent signing of Jake Livermore and the loan acquisition of Marc Wilson, it would have arguably been the signing of a player they were heavily linked with that would have made a massive difference.

According to BBC Sport, the Baggies wanted Morgan Schneiderlin and offered around £15 million for the Frenchman before the window had even opened, which certainly suggests that Pulis had placed the then-Manchester United midfielder at the top of his list of priority targets.

And with Schneiderlin ultimately joining Everton in a deal initially worth £20 million that could subsequently rise by another £4 million (via Guardian), West Brom may reflect that it was a missed opportunity with the fee not that being that much higher than their original offer.

It may have been difficult to prevent Schneiderlin moving to Goodison Park given his relationship with Ronald Koeman, but that will not stop Baggies supporters ruing missing out on him if he helps Everton move away from Pulis’ men in the table.

And the early signs suggest that he could be capable of doing just yet. The Toffees have won two and drawn one of the three games that Schneiderlin has featured in, and he was arguably their best player during Wednesday’s draw with Stoke.

And that form could have made the Frenchman the ideal person to give West Brom that additional bit of quality that would help them build on their excellent season so far.
