Vitor Pereira has claimed that ‘for the first time’ he sees such a situation where some Everton fans don’t want him as manager and they want Frank Lampard instead, as he told Sky Sports News (26/01/22 at 4:15 pm).

But the Everton managerial contender made it clear that he ‘doesn’t take this as a personal attack’ from the blue half of Merseyside.

The Portuguese coach is one of the contenders to replace the recently-sacked Rafa Benitez as manager and there has been some backlash to his possible appointment.

There was graffiti written outside of Goodison Park which read ‘Vitor Pereira out’ and ‘Frank Lampard in’.

The former England international is one of the names on Everton’s shortlist alongside Pereira, but it seems as though the former Porto coach is the ‘leading contender’.

Either way, regarding Everton fans backlash, this is what Pereira had to say, as he also responded to some fans wanting Lampard.

On Everton fans: “In my opinion, some of the critics are not for me,” said Pereira. “They don’t know me. They don’t know my work. My person. They don’t know me or my CV.

“I work in a lot of countries. Different clubs. We got several titles. But, before you start to work or know the person, you can’t judge. But I understand the feeling of the supporters.

“In the last year, the club didn’t get good results, so it’s normal they aren’t happy.

On Everton fans wanting Lampard as manager: “This is the first time in my career that I see these kinds of things. I never had in my career these comments about me. I have a CV and it speaks for itself – but I don’t take this as a personal attack.”

The Toffees are yet to find a replacement for Benitez after sacking the unpopular appointment over a week ago.

Duncan Ferguson has been put in temporary charge and was in the dugout when they were beaten 1-0 by Aston Villa over the weekend.

The Premier League is now on a mini winter break and this provides those in the Goodison Park boardroom to bring in the face that they want.

The only problem is that the supporters don’t trust them to make the right call because they appointed a certain Benitez in the first place.
