‘The deal will happen’: Chelsea told they will sign ‘powerful’ player, debunks Declan Rice claim

Jay Bothroyd says Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea will secure a transfer deal for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer, but he was quick to debunk claims about Arsenal and Declan Rice.

The former Arsenal player doesn’t think Declan Rice’s club-record transfer to the Emirates this summer ‘disrupted’ the market, but Chelsea signing Enzo Fernandez in January did.

Both players moved for fees above £100 million, with Jack Grealish, now a Treble winner at Manchester City, being the first player in the Premier League to move for those numbers two years ago from Aston Villa.

Moises Caicedo is the next kid everyone wants and Bothroyd thinks Chelsea will sign the 21-year-old for ‘£85-90 million’, as he told Sky Sports.

Back in January, the hard-hitting midfielder was keen to move to the Emirates, but he didn’t get his wish and stayed put – Roy Keane even backed the ‘powerful’ player to move.

But now it seems as though Chelsea, who are pushing to sign the player, will get their man, and whilst fans are anxious, ex-Premier League forward, Bothroyd, is confident.

“I don’t think he can do what he did before,” said Bothroyd. “He has to be disciplined. He has to let his representatives deal with it and just play his football.

“I think the deal will happen (for Chelsea). Rather than Declan Rice disrupting the market. I think it was Enzo Fernandez. If he hadn’t gone for that kind of money, then maybe Declan Rice wouldn’t have even gone for that kind of money, which then goes onto Caicedo. I think a deal will get done for around £85-90 million.

“From the player’s point of view, you want to be on the biggest stage, the biggest clubs and playing in the Champions League.”

Brighton are right to demand a big transfer fee for Caicedo

The transfer market and the fee on players’ head has been inflated and distorted for a long time now.

Therefore, you don’t blame Brighton for wanting to sell their key midfielder for the same fee the likes of Jack Grealish, Declan Rice and Enzo Fernandez have been sold for.

That’s what the game has come to, and in truth, unless there is some sort of cap or strict rules put in place, then these prices will only double during the next decade.
