Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has claimed that Kylian Mbappe is the ‘best player in the world’ after his heroics for PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday night, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (15/02/22 at 9:55 pm).

The 23-year-old scored a last-minute winner as PSG beat Real Madrid 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League tie and Carragher labelled it as ‘one of the best’ performances of his career.

All season long, debates have been raging far and wide as to who is the world’s best player, with many siding towards Liverpool flyer, Mohamed Salah.

Back in October, Carragher certainly thought that Salah was the one, but it seems as though the ex-defender has now changed his mind.

Whilst Liverpool fans will agree with Carragher lauding the quality in Mbappe’s boots, they certainly won’t like him labelling him ‘the best’ in the world right now when they have Salah wiping the floor, left, right and centre.

“That’s why he’s going to end up at Real Madrid,” said Carragher. “He was the best player on the pitch by a mile. It was Real Madrid v Kylian Mbappe, not PSG.

“It’s one of the best performances I have seen from him in the Champions League. You have got Messi on the pitch. But this is the guy that is taking the crown as the best player in the world. This guy is the future and he is going to dominate the Ballon d’Or.

“That’s one of the best performances I have seen from Mbappe. Not because of the brilliance at the end. We know he can do that. It’s the responsibility he took and the maturity he showed in that game.

“Whether it’s because it is Real Madrid and there is talk of him going there in the future, but he didn’t stop. There was a leadership about Mbappe that I haven’t seen before.”

This was perhaps a sign of what is to come from Mbappe because there is a lot of talk that he could be heading towards Madrid in the summer, as reported by the Mirror.

The World Cup winner’s contract in Paris expires in less than six months and it doesn’t seem as though he will sign on the dotted line.

For a long while, there were well-documented rumours that the Merseyside giants were also keen on the goalscoring machine.

But it seems as though he is going to swap his talents for the famous shirt of Real Madrid’s instead.
