Liverpool glovesman Alisson has been speaking to UOL about Belgium World Cup star Kevin De Bruyne, who Virgil van Dijk wants at Anfield.

What’s the story?

Well, the Brazil international spoke to UOL about a range of topics, including his nation’s defeat to Belgium in the quarter-final of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

It was De Bruyne who scored the winning goal as Belgium recorded a 2-1 victory, and when discussing that match, Alisson heaped praise on the £55m Manchester City maestro.

The Liverpool No.1 said: “Our dream ended in that match, but we have to know how to win and know how to lose. I’ve played De Bruyne several times and he’s been considered the best player in the Premier League, he always makes the difference for City and his team. He is a playmaker, we have to recognise that.”

Alisson’s comments come after Van Dijk told Gary Neville on The Overlap that he would love to have the 31-year-old at Liverpool.

When asked who he would love Jürgen Klopp to sign, the Netherlands international said: “Kevin De Bruyne. I think he’s unbelievable. If he would have played at Liverpool, we would have even gone further than we already have. I think he’s outstanding.”

Clearly, the Manchester City No.17 is highly thought of by those at Liverpool.

Liverpool need their own De Bruyne

We would accuse Alisson and Van Dijk of tapping De Bruyne up, although there would simply be no point in doing that.

The Belgian is contracted to Manchester City until June 2025, and Pep Guardiola wouldn’t dream of selling him to such a fierce Premier League rival.

Therefore, Liverpool must find their own De Bruyne, someone capable of taking over his throne in future, especially as Klopp is in desperate need of a midfield overhaul at Anfield.

The Reds tend to be quite smart when it comes to recruitment, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see Liverpool find a De Bruyne of their own.
