Speaking on The Overlap, Virgil van Dijk has named Kevin De Bruyne as the one player he’d love to have at Liverpool.

The Belgian has, of course, been starring for Liverpool’s biggest rivals, Manchester City, for the best part of the last decade, and to say that he’s been successful would be something of an understatement.

A two-time PFA Player of the Year, De Bruyne has arguably been the definitive player of this Premier League era, and, understandably, van Dijk would’ve loved him at Liverpool.

Van Dijk would love De Bruyne

The Dutchman named the midfielder as the player he’d most like at Anfield.

“Kevin De Bruyne. I think he’s unbelievable,” Van Dijk said.

“If he would have played at Liverpool, we would have even gone further than we already have. I think he’s outstanding.

“Good on the ball, pressing, scoring, got everything as a modern day midfielder and footballer in general, I think he’s an outstanding player.”

Unbeatable

Could you imagine the records Liverpool would’ve broken if they had De Bruyne in their team.

It’s not ridiculous to suggest that they’d be four-time Premier League champions and two-time Champions League winners, while they potentially would’ve had an invincible season in 2018/19 as well if De Bruyne could’ve turned the tide in the only game Liverpool lost that season – against Manchester City.

The thought of De Bruyne playing alongside Thiago in any midfield is mouthwatering, and the more you think about it, the more it is a shame that this never happened.

Unfortunately for the Reds and for van Dijk, De Bruyne is shining at City, and he has proven to be a constant thorn in the Merseyside club’s side for a long time now.
