Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has hailed Joe Aribo’s performance in yesterday’s 4-2 win over Ross County in Dingwall – and challenged the midfielder to do it consistently and be a “bit more ambitious.”
Aribo scored the opener with a delightful curled strike as the Light Blues geared up for Thursday’s Europa League playoff second leg against Armenians Alashkert with a win.
After his man of the match performance in the Highlands, Gerrard admitted that is what Aribo is “all about” and confessed that the performance from the Nigerian “has been coming.”
“I think that has been coming,” Gerrard told Rangers TV.
“Joe was a little bit frustrated through the week, but that is what Joe Aribo is all about – driving up to people and being aggressive, breaking the rules and it was a fantastic finish.
“We want him to keep doing that and we want him to keep adding goals and he has got the license in the midfield three when we name that three to go forward and be a bit more ambitious.”
Aribo has been a vital part of the Rangers squad in recent seasons and is regularly the player who can unlock defences and create something out of nothing.
His goal at Dingwall was a fantastic finish and is exactly the sort of thing Aribo is capable of on a regular basis.
A repeat on Thursday night against Alashkert in the Europa League would be just what Rangers need to kickstart their season.
