Jurgen Klopp has thanked, both Aston Villa and Wolves, for their efforts on the final day of the Premier League season.

Both Villa and Wolves, who were playing Manchester City and Liverpool, respectively, were going to have a big say on who wins the Premier League title.

There was serious hype going into Sunday’s final-day showdown and every bit of drama expected was produced, none more than what unfolded at the Etihad.

Aston Villa, with Steven Gerrard in the dugout, went 2-0 ahead, only to blow that lead within five minutes and allow Man City to win a fourth Premier League title in five seasons.

Whilst Pep Guardiola and his players were finding life tough against Villa, their Midland neighbours raced into an early lead and didn’t fall behind until the 84th minute at Anfield.

All in all, Klopp told Sky Sports that the manner in which Villa and Wolves performed proves that the ‘integrity’ in football isn’t lost.

“First of all, congratulations Manchester City and Pep Guardiola,’ said Klopp. “And thank you to Aston Villa and Wolves. They have all made a proper game of it.

“When people sometimes think about the integrity in football. I saw here an opponent (Wolves) that was really up to it.

“What I heard so far when you saw the result and Manchester City as well. It’s all fine and not the result we wanted.

“They were 1-0 up at one time? Were they 2-0 up as well? (When Klopp is told yes, he then proceeds to laugh). That’s how it is.”

For Villa and Wolves, for a number of weeks and months now, they haven’t had much to play for in the Premier League, especially those from B6.

But that wasn’t on show yesterday and it felt like they were the ones battling Liverpool and Manchester City for the crowns.

Klopp will no doubt feel bitterly disappointed that he has put 90+ points on the board again, yet he still hasn’t got a title to call for it.

However, that mood can quickly change if they beat Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League on Saturday.
