Liverpool and Real Madrid could proudly state that they are the powerhouses of Europe when it comes to winning the biggest prize of all.
Between them, they have a staggering 20 European Cups or Champions League trophies.
Of course, both would love to get back to those heights once again, with Real Madrid showing signs that they are going to conquer once more ahead of the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.
But could the Spanish giants add Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold to their ranks?
The 25-year-old’s contract expires in the summer of 2025 and there is talk that the current La Liga leaders are monitoring his contract situation.
Terry Gibson stated that Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘would be on the list of right-backs’ Real Madrid have to get, with 32-year-old Dani Carvajal not getting any younger.
The La Liga expert added that Carlo Ancelotti’s side will make an offer ‘to see what Liverpool take’, as he told talkSPORT.
This is an interesting period for the Reds because Jurgen Klopp is set to leave and fans wouldn’t want any key players following him out of the door.
But Terry Gibson suggested Trent Alexander-Arnold is a player that suits the profile Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti are looking for as they look to transform the team again.
Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid
“I think he would be on the list of right-backs that they do have to get,” said Gibson. “What Real Madrid and Ancelotti have done in recent years is that they have really freshened the squad with younger players. That has been due to the fact they have played Man City a few times in the Champions League and they have set the standard. Ancelotti has openly said that they need to be more athletic, more powerful and more youthful.
“The one problem area they do have is right-back. Dani Carvajal is 32. I don’t think there is a desperate need to replace him. He has had a fantastic season. He has five goals this year. We know Alexander-Arnold can score goals, and make goals, but Carvajal is having a fantastic season.
“But I think long term, what’s interesting is that both of their contracts are up at the same time – 2025. If there is a position they are looking for to bring in someone younger, then it’s right-back – it’s just planning for the future. I think Real Madrid will be looking to buy someone on the cheap and that’s because of the cash they are using for Mbappe. If Alexander-Arnold is up in 2025, it might be one of those where they make an offer with a year to go to see what Liverpool take.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract
With Michael Edwards returning, he has a lot on his plate, including keeping hold of the star players at the club.
During his first spell at Anfield, he was lauded and applauded for getting so many top deals done, well, now he faces his toughest test.
The positive news for Liverpool fans is that sources have told HITC Football that the club are confident in penning down Alexander-Arnold to a new contract.
If the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk can follow, then the future will look much better, even though such a legendary figure will be leaving at the end of it all.
