Liverpool are confident they will tie down Trent Alexander-Arnold to a new long-term contract before this summer’s European Championship.
Alexander-Arnold is out-of-contract in 2025 and as HITC revealed, Liverpool held initial discussions in January with the player’s representatives.
The 25-year-old is understood to be very happy with life at Anfield and he has shown no indication that is looking to leave, indeed the club believe he is ready to commit to them.

Spanish giants aware
HITC is told that Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are both ‘aware’ of Alexander-Arnold’s situation – but have not held talks with his camp as they believe a new deal at Anfield is likely.
Liverpool have a new football supremo Michael Edwards in place and with sporting director Richard Hughes appointed – the club are very comfortable with their hierarchy going forward and tying down Alexander-Arnold is understood to be a priority for Edwards and Hughes.
HITC understands Alexander-Arnold has been told the club are looking to build around him as a cornerstone of the club going forward and they are ready to make him the highest paid player at Anfield in recognition of the form he has shown.
Liverpool, who also have the long-term futures of Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah to resolve, intend to accelerate talks in the coming weeks and HITC is told that ideally they resolve before this summer’s European Championships.
Committed to Anfield
Liverpool-born Alexander-Arnold has never shown any indication that he wanted to leave Liverpool, indeed he has always suggested that he could see himself staying at Anfield for his entire career.
“There is nowhere else I’d rather be than Liverpool. Somewhere I want to stay for the rest of my career is Liverpool. It’s what I’ve always dreamed of. Liverpool are special. It’s completely down to the fans. Whether we are winning or losing we always have their love,” he told The Times back in 2018.
“I want to become captain one day. That’s definitely a dream of mine.
“I hope with dedication, the right advice and the hard work that still needs to be put in that one day I might achieve that dream of becoming captain, something that me and my family will be very proud of if it comes.”
