Ally McCoist has admitted that he would prefer Sean Dyche over Michael Beale, as he reacted to the rumours that Rangers have approached Queens Park Rangers for him to become their new manager, as he told talkSPORT on Thursday morning.

The Glasgow club are looking to replace the recently-sacked, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and McCoist looked at both ends of the coin regarding Beale taking to the Rangers dugout at Ibrox as a first-team manager.

On one end of the coin, the Rangers legend shared how the 42-year-old knows the club, the players and those in the boardroom, plus pointing to how he played a part in guiding the club to the Europa League final last season, despite leaving for Aston Villa with Steven Gerrard months before.

But, on the other end of the coin, someone like Dyche has more experience and the 51-year-old would provide more ‘security’.

Well, on Wednesday night, talkSPORT shared that Rangers are set to make a ‘formal approach’ to Championship promotion hopefuls QPR for Beale.

McCoist, at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, spoke about that overnight news and he was also asked who he would prefer between Beale and Dyche.

“Without wanting to upset any of our Wolves fans, but I think it’s a bit more obvious (on Beale picking Rangers after turning down Wolves),” said McCoist. “He already knows Rangers and has been there with Steven (Gerrard).

“He knows the players, he knows the city and knows the whole set-up, so I would imagine, that would come into play in his decision, if and when he is offered the job.

“It’s an interesting one because there haven’t been any real clear-cut candidates as such. There has been talk of Michael (Beale). There has been talk of Sean Dyche.

On who he would take between Beale and Dyche: “In terms of security, I think I would lean towards Sean, to tell you the truth, just because of the experience.

“Any managerial appointment is a gamble. But is it worth taking a gamble on Michael, who you can argue coached and trained the team to get to the Europa League final? He was part of the coaching team. I didn’t say he was solely responsible – I think there are pros and cons.”

THE BRAINS BEHIND THE OPERATION

When Steven Gerrard took to the Ibrox dugout, he was tasked with stopping Celtic from winning the ten, and whilst there were a number of rocky roads, they got over the line, in the end.

Whilst the Liverpool legend was front and centre of everything they did, many felt that Beale was the brains behind the whole operation.

The same noises were made when he followed Gerrard to Aston Villa last season, with Argentina’s number one goalkeeper, Emi Martinez, sharing how he had never heard a number two speak and get involved so much.
