TalkSPORT have reported late on Wednesday evening that Rangers are set to make a “formal approach” to bring in Michael Beale at Ibrox – with the Englishman starring in his first management role down south.

Beale, 42, has impressed since taking over at QPR. It is his first job as a manager, having worked as a coach for more than three years at Rangers. He then followed Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa, before leaving Villa Park in the summer.

The ex-Liverpool and Sao Paulo coach has managed 22 games at QPR so far, winning nine. He has turned what was a mid-table Championship side into a challenger for the top six, ahead of the World Cup break. Rangers are keen on him.

The Sun claim Rangers want Beale, and the man himself is interested in a return to Ibrox – around a year after leaving. TalkSPORT now report that Rangers are set to make a “formal approach” to bring him back to Glasgow, as manager.

It makes sense. Beale was often seen as the brains behind the Gerrard operation at Rangers. Of course, Gerrard took Rangers from a side some way off Celtic – to winning the Premiership, unbeaten. Gerrard himself is without a job.

But the chances of a return for Gerrard have been played down. Plenty of other names have been linked with replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Ibrox, following his sacking on Monday. Peter Bosz, Scott Parker, Sean Dyche and more.

However, it appears Ross Wilson’s first choice is Beale. Now, an approach is due to be made for the QPR boss, who turned Wolves down earlier this season. If Beale is keen on a return to Ibrox is unclear, as things stand right now.

But he is highly-rated and the belief is, he can turn the tide at Ibrox – as a manager, this time. His coaching methods are unrivalled, with Steven Gerrard even claiming that Beale is an “expert” on the training ground.
