The former Foxes goalkeeper says Leicester are close to forming a squad capable of retaining their Premier League title.
Leicester City and England legend Gordon Banks has told the Daily Express that the current Premier League champions are a couple of players away from enjoying another successful season under Claudio Ranieri.
Having already scooped a sensational and unlikely league title last season, the Foxes have already dipped into the transfer market this summer, moving for Nice’s Nampalys Mendy, Hannover’s Ron-Robert Zieler, Luis Hernandez of Sporting Gijon and CSKA Moscow’s Ahmed Musa.
Despite going into the coming season as defending champions, City will once again be seen as underdogs in the eyes of many, but Banks believes Ranieri’s side still have the potential to be a formidable force.
The legendary former goalkeeper, who spent eight years at Leicester before joining Stoke City in 1967, told the Daily Express: “If Ranieri buys a couple of players and plays the same way I think they’ll have a decent season.
“Even if they don’t win the league again, they did exceptionally well.”
Despite making progress in terms of adding to his squad, Ranieri still faces a fight to keep hold of last term’s star performers, with N’Golo Kante one of the names strongly linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium.
Shanghai SIPG have become the latest side to be reportedly interested in the Frenchman, and are thought to be preparing a £35 million bid.
