Tottenham Hotspur are in pole position to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu, but David Moyes’s West Ham United are still in the race for the Spurs target, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

What’s the story?

Nuno’s Tottenham are leading the race for Bologna central defender Tomiyasu, according to the report in the Italian publication, as translated by The Express.

Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano said on Matt Hayes’s YouTube channel last month that the youngster’s “dream” is to join Spurs.

Earlier this month, Cuorirosso Blu claimed that West Ham want to sign the Japan international, who can also play as a right-back.

We covered the report here on HITC Sport at the time.

Could West Ham move ahead of Tottenham?

Tottenham were first linked with Tomiyasu way back in June.

The Sun reported on June 26 that Spurs were confident of signing the 22-year-old for £15 million.

However, it seems that Tottenham and Bologna have yet to reach an agreement over a transfer fee.

With just days left in the summer transfer window, Spurs are running out of time to get a deal done.

West Ham reportedly entered the race for Tomiyasu only this month, but if they make a good offer and are able to meet Bologna’s demands, then they could secure the services of the defender.

Tomiyasu may prefer a move to Spurs, but if the North London club are not willing to pay the transfer fee needed for him, then he could well consider alternatives.
