Charlie Nicholas believes Alfredo Morelos is now ‘guaranteed’ to leave Rangers in the next transfer window after the Ibrox star switched agent, via his Scottish Daily Express column.

The Gers will likely face a battle to retain the Colombian at the end of the season as he will enter the final year of his contract. Morelos penned a £33k-a-week deal in 2019 that made him their top-earner. But Ibrox chiefs will now be loath to risk him walking away for free.

His form since moving to the Premiership giants from HJK Helsinki in 2017 for £1m will also have alerted suitors. Morelos has scored 113 goals and offered 51 assists over 222 outings across all competitions, and is Rangers’ all-time top European goalscorer with 29 to date.

Rangers have previously rebuffed interest in Morelos, with Porto coming close to securing his transfer last year. A Bola reported the Portuguese giants offered £10.3m, plus £4.3m in add-ons. But while the deal was close to competition, the Gers managed to keep their star.

Nicholas urges Rangers accept £10m bids after Alfredo Morelos changes agent

Nicholas believes Rangers can no longer demand similar transfer fees to what Porto bid for Morelos given his contract. He also questions the Gers’ ability to fend off interest, after the Daily Record noted the striker has switched agent to the Footfeel and Echo Sports group.

“I see Alfredo Morelos has changed his agent and for that, it means he will be 100 per cent guaranteed to be leaving Rangers this summer,” Nicholas wrote.

“A lot of players run down their contracts, but I would expect Rangers to sell him in the last year. They knocked back £15m a couple of years ago but you are probably looking at about £10m now. If they were to get to that, then Rangers should take it.”

Morelos had remained with the World in Motion agency group since they helped facilitate his transfer to Rangers in 2017. Footfeel are now likely to go all-out to help broker a move away from Glasgow through their strong connections in England, as well as Spain and Italy.
