‘Swap deal talks’: Journalist says Spurs could use their player to sign a truly rapid footballer

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Express journalist Ryan Taylor has been speaking about Tottenham Hotspur and their interest in Pau Torres.

According to Alasdair Gold, Torres is the next defender on Spurs’ shortlist after they missed out on Alessandro Bastoni, and now, Taylor claims that there have been talks of a swap deal between Villarreal and Spurs regarding Torres and Giovani Lo Celso.

The Argentine midfielder spent the second-half of last season out on loan at Villarreal and after a successful spell at the Yellow Submarine, the La Liga club want to keep the midfielder on.

According to Taylor, Spurs could now use Lo Celso to bring Torres to the club.

Taylor spoke about a potential swap deal between Spurs and Villarreal.

“There are lots of alternative targets on the club’s radar. There have been swap deal talks with Villarreal over a move for Pau Torres who is a player Manchester United have looked at as well,” Taylor said.

“Left-footed, he can play in a back four or a back three, you can see why he would be of interest for Tottenham who looked at him last summer as well. Villarreal don’t have European football as they finished seventh in La Liga, so Villarreal will be looking to cash in while his stock is high.”

“£45m would be the valuation for the player, but Spurs have the trump card with Giovani Lo Celso on their books, he was great on loan at Villarreal, so it would make sense to use him in a package, I do suspect that Spurs would have to pay an addition figure on top of that to bring him in.”

Smart move

Using an unwanted midfielder to bring in a defender who can plug a real problem position would be a smart move from Fabio Paratici and Spurs.

We hate to get overly excited, but in all honesty, Torres looks like the perfect player for Antonio Conte.

A great ball-player and left-footed, Torres also has all of the physical attributes to be a star in the Premier League.

Standing at 6ft 4 he’s a giant at the back, and in 2019/20 he was clocked as the fifth-fastest player in La Liga, so we’re talking about a truly rapid footballer here.

This could be one of the deals of the summer if Spurs can pull it off.
