Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Tottenham Hotspur’s hunt for a new centre-back and Pau Torres.
The London club are keen to bolster their defence this summer, but sadly, their search for a new centre-half isn’t going too well.
Alessandro Bastoni’s agent has confirmed that his client plans on staying in Milan, while Josko Gvardiol is expected to be a tad too expensive for the north London club.
With Spurs’ top two targets unavailable, Gold says that the next player on the club’s shortlist is Villarreal’s Pau Torres.
What’s been said?
Gold spoke about Torres.
“I presume that the top two on Spurs’ list aren’t going to be available this summer. In order, the next on the list is Pau Torres who Spurs tried to sign last year but he turned them down, but it’s a whole different Tottenham Hotspur this summer,” Gold said.
“This is Antonio Conte’s Tottenham, in the Champions League of course, and I do think that it helps that the two clubs have a good relationship. Villarreal want Lo Celso again next season, so I do wonder if in the Lo Celso talks there’s something you can do with Torres,” Gold said.

Not a bad alternative
If Pau Torres is your third-choice target at centre-back, then you must have a big budget to play with.
Indeed, Torres is a Spain international and one of the most coveted defenders in Europe. He played in a Champions League semi-final last season, and the fact that he’s only Spurs’ third-choice just goes to show how serious they are about bolstering their defence.
Of course, whether or not Tottenham can get this one over the line remains to be seen, but this is certainly a rumour to be excited about.
