Newcastle United fans on Twitter think that they are edging closer to signing Joe Willock from Arsenal.
Rumours have been rife that Newcastle have agreed on a deal to sign the Hale-End academy product after his successful loan spell at St James’ Park last season.
Well, Mikel Arteta’s decision to leave Willock out of Arsenal’s squad that faced Tottenham in a pre-season friendly today has added fuel to the fire.
Newcastle supporters have made it clear for some while now that they want their club to snap up his talents, whether it’s on loan or on a permanent basis.
And given that he was left out of Arsenal’s matchday squad altogether today – the first time this summer – then it has sparked the obvious.
Whilst Willock has featured in previous pre-season games, he hasn’t been handed the game time that he would have liked.
It’s perhaps been obvious that the writing is on the wall for the goalscoring midfielder to leave his boyhood club.
Steve Bruce’s side are the only team in England’s top-flight yet to do any business.
And if they do indeed announce Willock as their first summer signing then it would provide the Toon Army faithful with a much-needed lift.
