Divock Origi is using the March international break to speak with Belgium teammate Alexis Saelemaekers to learn more about AC Milan before a possible free transfer from Liverpool.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who report the Rossoneri are working to get the striker signed up for next season. His contract at Anfield is set to lapse at the end of the term and will not be extending his Merseyside stay into a ninth campaign following his 2014 arrival.

Liverpool signed Origi from LOSC Lille eight years ago for £10m and extended his stay five years later. But after playing a bit part role in Jurgen Klopp’s plans so far this term, making just 14 appearances and starting a mere five, Origi is now looking to forge a new chapter.

Origi has already given AC Milan his yes to joining the Serie A side in a free transfer from Liverpool. The San Siro natives have also tabled a €4m-a-year (£64k-a/w) net contract to the 26-year-old. A marginal pay rise from the £60k-a-week the forward earns at Anfield.

But he has not yet penned the deal to join the Rossoneri in a Bosman move in the summer. Instead, Origi is using his call-up to the Belgium squad for their friendlies with the Republic of Ireland and Burkina Faso to debate the transfer with AC Milan midfielder Saelemaekers.

Origi has sought to bend Saelemaekers’ ear to learn more about AC Milan as a club, head coach Stefano Pioli and what Milan is like as a city before any free transfer from Liverpool.

Saelemaekers joined the Rossoneri from RSC Anderlecht in 2020 following an initial loan in the previous season. He has since been a regular part of Pioli’s plans with 94 appearances so far. He has also entered into the Belgium squad following his permanent move to Italy.

Origi – who Alan Shearer has hailed as ‘superb’ – and Saelemaekers have since featured in two Red Devils squads together. And could begin to stretch that tally next season in Milan.
