Sunderland look unlikely to re-sign Manchester United’s Amad Diallo after fresh reports have emerged.
The Red Devils believe that a loan spell in the Premier League could be best for Diallo, according to The Athletic.
After an unsuccessful stint with Rangers, the Ivorian is now regarded as one of Sunderland’s best ever loan stars after netting 14 goals in the Championship last season.
Various reports claimed that the Black Cats were hopeful of bringing him back to the Stadium of Light despite missing out on promotion, however it now looks like he could remain in the top flight.

The Northern Echo previously reported that Sunderland would face competition from West Ham, Burnley and Everton for his signature, while Feyenoord have also joined the race for the attacker.
With the likes of Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho all currently ahead of Diallo in the pecking order, the 20-year-old could be set for a move further down the league table.
Tony Mowbray spoke to Manchester United this week and revealed his wish to retain the clubs’ close relationship, and the Sunderland boss could look to snap up another youth star if they fail to welcome Diallo back this summer.
Can Amad Diallo be replaced at Sunderland?
Amad Diallo became one of the Championship’s signings of the seasons and was easily one of the second tier’s biggest talents as he bagged 17 goal contributions and plenty of Goal of the Season contenders.
The youngster is now ranked among some of the Black Cats’ best loan players including Fabio Borini, Danny Rose and Yann M’Vila.

Diallo was clearly playing at a level below him as he shone for the Wearside club and it would be a miracle to see Sunderland bring in a player that has a similar ability.
However, the forward’s absence next season certainly won’t hinder Mowbray’s side. Sunderland’s success last time out means they can now sign high quality youngsters like Amad all over the pitch.
The Manchester United starlet will definitely be missed at the SoL, but there will be a new crop that are just as exciting to the fans.
