Tony Mowbray has expressed his desire to grow Sunderland’s connection with Manchester United.

The Black Cats boss has told Manchester United’s official website that he hopes to ‘keep a close relationship’ with the club following Amad Diallo’s sensational loan spell.

The Ivorian was named as Sunderland’s Young Player of the Season after netting 14 goals for the Championship outfit last season.

“I hope we can keep a close relationship with United, if they need to loan young players out,” Mowbray said.

“I think the game is littered with Manchester United players who came through their system, through their Academy system, and generally what you know is you get grounded, talented footballers who know what to do with the football. They know how to deal with the ball.

“When I’m looking for players, I always look to see what their background is, where they were brought up and the core values of what their football brain is about. You never really fall short with Manchester United players, whether they made it at first-team level or not as, generally, they’ve all been brought up properly.”

Sunderland have previously snapped up the likes of Paddy McNair, Adnan Januzaj and Donald Love from the Red Devils. However, it was Diallo who became a fan favourite during his time at the Stadium of Light.

Who could Tony Mowbray target next at Manchester United?

Manchester United‘s academy have welcomed plenty of high quality players such as Marcus Rashford, Dean Henderson and Alejandro Garnacho in recent years.

Erik ten Hag’s side still have a wealth of talent that could be sent out on loan again next season and, if Mowbray’s comments are anything to go by, Sunderland could look to benefit from Diallo’s loan once again.

Hannibal Mejbri and Alvaro Fernandez are two players that enjoyed impressive spells in the Championship last time out, with the latter named Preston North End’s Young Player of the Year.

Meanwhile, Manchester Evening News reported that Brandon Williams could be open to a loan move in January and he may still be available for a campaign away from Old Trafford.

Sunderland have a few options they could go for this summer, however fans will be eagerly waiting to see if they make a second move for Diallo.
