Tottenham goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman is reportedly close to joining Swedish side Degerfors IF.

According to Fotboll Direkt, the Spurs shot-stopper will join the Allsvenskan club. However, it is not yet known if the transfer will be a permanent one or a loan move.

The 22-year-old academy graduate was due to be Spurs’ third-choice keeper for the upcoming season. Whiteman featured three times in pre-season and impressed between the sticks.

However, with Whiteman making just one professional appearance during his time as a football, it is likely that a loan move would be more beneficial.

Indeed, Tottenham will play UEFA Europa Conference League football next season. And Whiteman could earn some minutes in some matches of the competition should Spurs go deep.

But, a loan move to Degerfors could be for the best for Whiteman. The keeper needs regular first-team football, and with Spurs going big to sign Pierluigi Gollini, the Tottenham academy star will find it hard to play often.

Yet on social media, some fans believe that loaning him out to Sweden would be a poor decision. Whiteman has won supporters over pre-season, and they want to see more of him at Tottenham.

Here’s what some fans had to say on Twitter about Whiteman joining Degerfors…
