Charles Watts has revealed that he would be ‘stunned’ if Arsenal failed to sign another winger this summer, amid speculation of Nicolas Pepe potentially leaving the club.

The Ivory Coast international is likely to be leaving the Gunners in some capacity after being left out of the matchday squad by Mikel Arteta for the victory at Bournemouth this past weekend.

Pepe, a £72 million signing in 2019, clearly has very little future at Arsenal.

Even before the departure rumours, the North Londoners have been heavily linked with adding a wide man to their ranks, with Yeremy Pino, Cody Gakpo and now Neto among those touted to join Arteta’s side.

And Watts, who exclusively covers Arsenal for Goal.com, has told his own YouTube channel that they’re almost certainly going to be signing another attacker, amid talk of a ‘mystery winger’ coming in.

He said: “I’d be stunned if Arsenal didn’t bring in a winger if you let Nicolas Pepe go. They want to bring in a winger, there’s no doubt about it. We’ll have to wait and see. I can’t tell you who it’s going to be, this whole ‘mystery winger’, the craze that’s going around Twitter at moment. Who is the mystery winger? I can’t tell you because I don’t know. If Pepe goes, I cannot for the life of me think they won’t get something over the line for a winger.”

This, the addition of a winger, might be the missing piece of the jigsaw for an Arsenal side that simply has to qualify for the Champions League this season.

Arteta and Edu have dropped another £150 million on transfers this summer, having spent more than anyone else in Europe 12 months ago.

There’s been enormous investment and KSE are going to want a return on these signings eventually, hopefully in the form of Champions League revenue.

Arteta’s side have won all three of their Premier League outings thus far, for the first time since 2004.

They’re looking very good and adding a wide player would only add to what is shaping up to be an excellent squad.
