Speaking on the 433 Podcast, Deandre Yedlin has been discussing his career to date and the time he spent at Tottenham Hotspur.
Yediln joined Spurs in 2015, but he played just one Premier League game for the north London outfit as he struggled to fit in at Tottenham.
Yedlin admits that he really didn’t adapt very well to the Premier League, and he says that he lost his confidence within a month of joining Spurs due to the standards that were being set and the level of talent in the English game.
What’s been said?
Yedlin spoke about his struggles at Spurs.
“The first month I was there it was really eye-opening to see the level. I think at that point I lost my confidence a little bit, thinking that I wasn’t at that level. That kept going through my head and that was the foundation of a lot of the struggles I had there. Soon after that I recognised that a big problem of mine was the mental side of the game. I hadn’t struggled before, but when I got there I didn’t know how to handle it,” Yedlin said.

Tough
We can’t begin to imagine how hard it must have been for Yedlin to join Spurs.
Think about it, he was going up against Kyle Walker for a spot at right-back as a 22-year-old, and the fact that he had such a following over in America would have made things that much tougher for him.
We can completely understand how that whole situation would have been overwhelming for the full-back, and sadly, his Spurs career never really took off.
Luckily, Yedlin did eventually carve out a respectable Premier League career at Newcastle, playing over 100 times for the Magpies in the top-flight.
A move to Tottenham was sadly just the wrong place at the wrong time for the American.
