Arsenal are on the lookout for extra firepower to add to their squad this summer as they prepare for another Premier League title push.
It was deja vu for Mikel Arteta‘s side last season as they were once again pipped to the league title by Manchester City.
But the strides taken by Arsenal under Arteta are undeniable and they will set their sights on league glory again next season.
However, City have what Arsenal do not – a proven goalscorer who can fire them to the title. It is something the North London side will look to rectify during this summer’s transfer window.
HITC reported earlier this year that Arsenal stepped up interest in Viktor Gyokeres with the Sporting Lisbon striker enjoying a remarkable campaign in Portugal.
Arsenal’s chances of landing the 26-year-old suffered a blow when highly-rated Sporting boss Ruben Amorim pledged to stay with the side next season.
To add to Arsenal’s misery, Sporting are even less likely to part ways with Viktor Gyokeres after losing his strike partner Paulinho to Mexican side Deportivo Toluca.

Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres is an ‘Animal’
Paulinho was sensational for Sporting last season, only trailing Gyokeres in the scoring charts with 21 goals in all competitions.
His agent, Fernando Meira, has admitted that Gyokeres’s form influenced Paulinho’s decision to leave the Portuguese outfit.
As reported by Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Meira said: “Paulinho had very positive moments at Sporting. He ended up being decisive in these two championships that Sporting won.
“But at the moment Sporting has Gyokeres, who is an animal, and certainly one of the best forwards in Europe and with good statistical results.”
Arsenal must sign a new striker this summer
After coming so close to the Premier League title in consecutive seasons, the final piece of Arsenal’s puzzle appears to be a proven goal-getter.
While Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus offer great link-up play and work rate, their goal record is poor.

Signing Erling Haaland elevated City to their treble success and a record-breaking four league titles in a row. No one can match the Dane’s numbers in front of goal but Arsenal desperately need a striker who can at least compete.
A move for Gyokeres looks tough this summer, but Arsenal cannot afford to wait around for the Swede.
