Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou became a popular figure amongst fans in his debut campaign in the Premier League.
Even sections of the Arsenal support appreciated what the Spurs man had to say because there was no filter, no nonsense and it was a breath of fresh air.
With club football now in hibernation, Euro 2024 is taking centre stage and Ange Postecoglou was working as a pundit for ITV on Tuesday night.
England locked horns with Slovenia for their final group game and Postecoglou was asked to share his thoughts on the opposing players ahead of the match.
Presenter Mark Pougatch brought up the name of RB Leipzig superstar Benjamin Sesko and how ‘Arsenal had a dabble at him’ this summer.
Sources told HITC that Mikel Arteta’s side wanted to sign the sought-after striker, but instead, he decided to stay with the German club and sign a new contract.
Postecoglou admitted that Sesko was ‘smart’ to stay in his current environment, even though ‘almost every big club would have looked at him’, as he told ITV Sport.
When it was put to Postecoglou ‘is that the Tottenham manager saying it’s a smart move not to go to Arsenal?’, he responded by simply saying ’no comment, mate’, with Ian Wright and Roy Keane laughing in the background.
Sesko netted 18 goals in all competitions during the last campaign, but he is yet to get off the mark at Euro 2024.
Arsenal’s transfer interest in Benjamin Sesko
“Well, Arsenal had a dabble at him,” said Pougatch. “You can almost see why with this power, his pace and running, Ange.”
Postecoglou responded: “Absolutely. I think almost every big club would have looked at him this year. It’s a smart move for him to stay there for another year. I think there is still some development in him, but really, really good attributes for a striker’s position, for sure.”
Pougatch then added: ”Is that the Tottenham manager saying it’s a smart move not to go to Arsenal?” The likes of Roy Keane and Ian Wright laughed with Postecoglou simply saying: “No comment, mate.”

Arsenal and Tottenham are searching for more goals
Both teams were pretty strong in the attacking department during the last campaign, even though Mikel Arteta’s side don’t have that bonafide number nine and Spurs lost Harry Kane.
But you feel that number nine presence is still needed. That’s why there were transfer links with Sesko, including both clubs being linked with Ivan Toney.
The Brentford man was a much-wanted player 12 months ago, but his betting ban and then loss of form seem to have pushed him down the pecking order.
As Arsenal and Spurs search for even more goals, it’s going to be interesting to see if they still go for someone like Toney because he does have 12 months left on his Brentford contract.
