Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers had a night to forget on loan at Stoke City last night.

He gave away a penalty with a poorly timed challenge in the loss at home to West Brom.

Carter-Vickers’ challenge had Stoke fans calling for him to be sent back to Tottenham.

It was a howler of a tackle, but Stoke caretaker boss Rory Delap did not want to make too much of it, even if he felt the challenge killed the game off.

Delap admitted it was not great from Carter-Vickers, but shouldered responsibility himself for his side’s defeat.

He told Stoke’s official website: “The second goal killed us, Cam did well to get back in position but then he made a rash challenge.

“I think I take a portion of the blame for the formation really because I didn’t think it worked but I put out what I felt was our strongest team and that formation fit.”

Carter-Vickers, 21, was making his 10th Championship start of the season.

Stoke sit rock bottom of the Championship and some fans are calling for former manager Tony Pulis to come back in and rescue them.

As a defensive minded coach, he could help Carter-Vickers back on track.
